Senior Pathways at Ohana College

Our curriculum aligns with the Australian Curriculum and the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) requirements while allowing flexibility to support individual learning pathways.

At Ohana College, we focus on developing lifelong skills such as literacy, numeracy, communication and critical thinking. These skills support students throughout their education and prepare them for future study, training and employment.

Students develop these skills through learning opportunities that strengthen:

Literacy and Communication
Building the ability to read, write, communicate and think critically.

Numeracy and Problem Solving
Developing practical mathematical skills and applying them to real-world situations.

Students can also engage in elective subjects and vocational pathways that connect with their interests, strengths and future goals.

At Ohana College, all students are supported through an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which outlines personalised learning supports to help them achieve their learning and personal goals.

As students move into the senior years, they also develop a Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan, which maps out their pathway through the senior phase of schooling and beyond.

The SET Plan helps students identify and plan for:

• career interests

• subject selections

• certificate and training opportunities

• post-school pathways such as employment, further training or study

SET Plans are developed collaboratively between students, families, teachers and our VET and Careers Coordinator, ensuring every student has a clear direction and the support needed to achieve their goals.

Every student’s journey is different. At Ohana College, students are supported to design a pathway that reflects their goals, interests and strengths.

Senior students may work toward:

Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
Achieved through a combination of school subjects, vocational education and recognised learning.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Industry-recognised certificate courses delivered through registered training organisations, helping students develop practical skills linked to future careers.

School-Based Traineeships or Employment Pathways
Opportunities that allow students to gain workplace experience while continuing their education.

Flexible Pathway Options
Senior students may access flexible learning arrangements such as release days for TAFE study, traineeships, volunteering or other approved work-related experiences, supporting their transition into employment or further training.

Personal Development and Career Readiness
Including continued participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, along with support to develop a professional CV, build interview skills and gain workplace experience through industry exposure and work-related learning opportunities.
